The radical potential of gender theory for critical management engagement: A seminar and an invitation to write

Bradford University School of Management, 17th September 2015

This academic meeting aims to bring feminists, queer theorists, critically-focused management scholars and activist academics together to explore what we can learn from gender theorists to develop more critically-engaged business school activism. Can we take radical academic theory out of the business school? The focus will be on discussion and debate. It marks the launch of Gender/CROW: the gender sub-centre of Bradford’s Centre for Research in Organizations and Work.

Item 2:

Further to Jo’s call for submissions to a special issue of Culture and Organization, you are warmly invited to attend the first annual memorial seminar to celebrate the life and work of Heather Höpfl, Professor of Management at Essex Business School. If you are considering submitting to the special issue, this would be an ideal forum in which to explore and discuss ideas.

Speakers will consider the ongoing influence of Heather’s writing on spirituality; gender and feminist theory; women’s writing in management and organization studies, and organizational identity, symbolism and culture.

The seminar is free to attend. However, places are limited so please register as soon as possible if you would like to join us. Lunch and refreshments, sponsored by Taylor and Francis, will be provided throughout the day.

To register and the view the full programme, please use the following link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/remembering-heather-a-seminar-to-celebrate-the-life-and-work-of-heather-hopfl-tickets-17565135794

Best wishes,

Melissa

Scrawl from Scossy

Dear Scossers, I've been feeling a little lonely in Uppsala recently, with so many of my SCOS family away traveling the world gaining knowledge and enjoying some well-earned time off. It seems to me to be a physical feeling this; my tail droops and no amount of sunshine seems to perk it up. Do you have thoughts about our animal selves and our familial tribes? Perhaps we could talk about them next time we meet! Before then, I might beat the blues by having a little holiday myself...
